Hunters Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand grabs 2019 Best In Show By Varietal.

Hunters Sauvignon Blanc by Hunters Wines from New Zealand won the “Best In Show By Varietal (Sauvignon Blanc),” along with “Best In Show By Country (New Zealand),” and a Gold medal at the 2019 China Wine Competition held in Shanghai on 4 November.

Sauvignon Blanc has been a flagship wine for Hunters Wine since the very beginning in 1979. Sauvignon Blanc is the variety that introduced Hunter’s and New Zealand wine to the world back in 1986 at the Sunday Times Wine Festival in London.

2019 marks Hunter’s 37th year producing Sauvignon Blanc.

With 13% ABV, Hunters Sauvignon Blanc is vegan certified by the New Zealand Vegetarian Society. This wine shows ripe passionfruit, lime, and grapefruit notes. The palate is rich and full with a dense fruit core. Keeping a hold on their house style, Hunters Sauvignon Blanc has a long and dry finish. Whilst the Hunters Sauvignon Blanc style has evolved gradually over time, the winemakers have endeavored to stay true to the original quality focus.

The story of Hunters Wines is the story of Marlborough wine. Hunter’s - the dream of Ernie and Jane Hunter is a fiercely independent, family-owned winery established in Marlborough over 30 years ago. When Irishman Ernie Hunter arrived in New Zealand Marlborough had not even been considered as a potential wine-growing region. The land was primarily used for farming: growing lucerne, barley and grazing sheep.

In the early days of Marlborough wine, Ernie purchased farming land in Blenheim and planted Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Müller Thurgau, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir and of course, Sauvignon Blanc. The first vintage of Hunters Wines was produced in 1982 that won six medals at the National Wine Show.

Today Hunter's is the only Marlborough vineyard established in the 1970s to still be owned by its original family - more than 30 years after being founded.

To evaluate the entrants, the China Wine Competition invites a leading panel of top-level wine industry experts where wines are judged on the three parameters of Quality, Value, and Packaging.

The China Wine Competition, organized by the Beverage Trade Network, a leading platform that connects the alcohol beverage world - is the leading wine competition in China that looks to recognize, reward, and help promote beer brands that have successfully been created to identify and target a specific wine drinker.
